DESCRIPTION

The French & Italian Department at the University of Arizona is delighted to organize this conference to which all MA and doctoral students in French are invited to participate so that they may have the opportunity to

  • give a talk following the traditional format of 20 minutes to present plus 10 minutes for questions and comments, in French or in English
  • present a poster for work in progress to get constructive feedback and a stimulating interaction (15 minutes to present + 15 minutes for feedback), in French or in English
  • abstract submissions for both formats cannot exceed 300 words
  • exhibit their visual art (photography, painting, drawing, short film)
  • attend an instructive research workshop on Digital Humanities and a workshop on literature and visual art
  • attend two plenaries by renowned researchers on two different topics
  • meet other students and faculty who are warmly invited to attend as well
  • watch a Francophone film 

STRANDS

This conference mirrors our MA programmes. We will thus be delighted to receive abstracts addressing one or more of the following strands:

  • theoretical and applied linguistics
  • first, second language acquisition
  • teaching French as a second/foreign language
  • digital technologies and pedagogy
  • French and Francophone literature, culture and civilization
  • Francophone cinema
  • Women's studies, queer studies and sexuality
  • French/Francophone art, art history

This year, we also invite students in visual arts (photography, painting, drawing, short film) to submit their work related to French/Francophone culture. 

Arizona Working Papers in French & Italian

The participants who will have given a talk (traditional talk or poster) will be invited to submit a paper to our online Arizona Working Papers in French & Italian.

Plenaries

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Sébastien Dubreil, Teaching Professor of French and Francophone Studies, Second Language Acquisition, and Technology-Enhanced Learning at Carnegie Mellon University as well as Dr. Moradewun Adejunmobi, Professor of African American and African Studies at University of California, Davis

  • December 15, 2019: notification of acceptance or rejection
  • December 15, 2019: registration ($50 for students, $75 for faculty and guests)
  • February 1 2020: registration ($75 for students, $100 for faculty and guests)
